Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really pissed. She told him “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!” The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, and brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.
Only Three Doors
A group of middle school students went on a field trip. They were staying overnight. In the morning, 3 students were missing. The teachers went up to the room. They opened the door and found the three of them sitting in the middle of the room. The teacher asked: Why didn’t you guys come down. “There are only three doors in here,” they sobbed, “one is the bathroom, one is the closet, and one has a sign on it that says ‘Do Not Disturb’!”

NASA is inviting students, in grades 5-8, to participate in the Waste Limitation Management and Recycling Design Challenge. The challenge uses real-world scenarios that meet science and mathematics content standards. Students can participate in a formal, informal or home-school setting. Teams of up to six students will design a water recycling system for the unique environment of the moon. Teams will then test their system on a simulated wastewater stream. The proposal deadline has been extended to Feb. 15, 2010. The winning teams will be announced in May 2010. The top three teams will receive awards. The first place team will receive an expense-paid trip to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. During the winning team’s visit to Kennedy, students will gain firsthand knowledge about NASA’s missions, receive behind-the-scenes tours of NASA’s launch facilities, and learn about future aerospace and engineering careers. The 2010 Intel Schools of Distinction Awards recognize U.S. schools that demonstrate 21st century teaching and learning environments, and implement innovative programs that inspire their students to excel in the areas of math and science. What’s new this year? Eighteen finalists will be selected in April – three from each grade range (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) in each of the two categories of math and science – and all 18 will win a $5000 cash grant and a trip to Washington, D.C. for a 4-member team from their school and district.
Six winners, to be selected from the eighteen finalists and announced at the Gala Awards Event in Washington, DC, will each receive an additional $5,000 cash grant from the Intel Foundation and $100,000 in additional products and services from the program award sponsors. One of the final six winners will be identified as the Star Innovator for 2010, and earn an additional $15,000 cash grant from the Intel Foundation as well as additional services and products from the award sponsors. The Celebrate Urban Birds project at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology offers mini-grants to help museums, afterschool programs, libraries, community centers, and other local organizations fund neighborhood events. These events may involve art, gardening, science, community service or other cultural activities
They are ready to award a new round of these mini-grants which average $250-$500. If you are planning an event, you’re invited to apply for a grant at:
